Is a destination wedding for you?

April 11, 2018

It’s been a dream come true that I’ve been able to fuse my passions of photography and travel, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have photographed some awesome couples all over the world. I thought it’s about time there was a post on here about destination weddings. Here are some questions to ask yourself if you’re thinking about planning a destination wedding.

  1. How large do you envision your big day? If it’s important to you that ALL of your friends, family and Aunt Bertha that you’ve met once in your life attend your wedding, you might want to rethink a destination wedding. Typically, having a wedding out of town will mean a more intimate day.
  2. What kind of a bride are you? Do you need to have full control, or are you totally happy to pass the baton to someone else? If you need to be involved in every detail, it will probably help your stress levels to have a local wedding. When you plan a destination wedding, you will more often than not, be paired with a planner at your venue. They will be on site, making sure the details you’ve mentioned are executed well.
  3. What is your budget? Yes, the hard question: Money. Depending on where you are planning your big day, it can be fewer expensive to plan a wedding out of town. There will be less people for food, space, favors etc. On the flip side, you could spend a lot on making the guests who attend feel pampered. With a destination wedding, you spend your budget on different things than you do for a local wedding, so be sure to ask up front all the costs at the venue.

Those are some of the bigger questions to ask yourself up front. If you feel like a destination wedding is for you, the fun really begins! Start thinking about where you want to say “I do.” Do you want to get married on a white sandy beach, the lavender fields in the South of France, the coastal town of Amalfi in Italy? The possibilities are endless! I hope this helped you if you’ve been wondering about this option for your wedding. I’ll just leave it here that my passport and gear are ready if you need a photographer to capture your destination wedding 🙂
