tips for the london tube

June 21, 2018

I’m sure a lot of you know this already, but I’m obsessed with London. The attitude, the architecture, the history, the accents [am I right ;)]. It all just makes me happy and I feel so at home in the city. One of the other things I have to rave about when it comes to London is the Underground. If you’re like me and grew up in the suburbs without public transport, the idea of going to a very large city and needing to navigate said public transport may give you a mini anxiety attack. However, I found the Tube extremely easy to use and wanted to write down a few tips to help you feel even more comfortable.

  1. Try buying a pass for the amount of time you’re there for. Loading money on the card every time, or even buying a pass every day can really add up. It will save you a little bit of money to buy a pass for a few days time.
  2. Don’t hesitate to ask for help! The people in London are typically very kind and more than willing to help. When we were there the first time, I had to bust out my map [much to my dismay since I so desperately was trying to avoid looking like a tourist], and a business man saw us, stopped and asked how he could help! If you’re too shy to ask a local, they have personnel walking around in the Tube and they are there to help.
  3. Be sure to “mind the gap” 🙂 This tip is mostly because I love saying it [in my best British accent I might add]. I will say though, if you have strollers, you are going to want to be sure to mind that gap, especially if you’re rushing to make it on before the doors close.
  4. Follow the protocol for the escalators. When you’re using the escalators in London, you’ll want to be sure you stand on the right and walk to the left. People in London are very kind, but you’ll definitely know if you’re standing where they’re trying to walk!
  5. Last but not least, put down your phones and take in the experience of using public transportation in another city. The Tube is a great place to people watch 🙂

So tell me, what city has your favorite public transportation?
