tips to defeat jet-lag

March 21, 2018

I’m always wanting to be sure I’m serving you readers the best way I can. I want to make the content here is interesting and helpful, so I try and ask what you all want to read or have questions about. I’ve been asked about jet lag in the past, so I thought I would give you some of the tips that have helped us in our traveling 🙂

  1. Try to stay as stress-free as possible before leaving for your big trip. I know, I know, it’s way easier said than done, but if you can try to plan ahead to be packed and ready to go plus arriving to the airport at a reasonable time so you’re not rushing, it’ll help you be calm for the plane ride. That will hopefully help you get some sleep.
  2. It seems like a no-brainer, but drink lots of water. During the plane ride and the whole day when you first arrive. Dehydration is a not such a fun thing in general, but when it’s piggy-backed on to jet lag, you really feel so sick! It can be a few days before you recover from that! I really like bringing my Brita water bottle that has a built in filter 🙂
  3. Don’t take a nap when you first get somewhere! I know your internal clock is so messed up when traveling across time zones, and it is way hard to resist those ridiculously comfy hotel beds when you check in, but trust me, resist the temptation to nap! It doesn’t mean you have to stay up super late, but try to push through the day and go to bed early to get a good night’s rest. It does help if you can sleep a little on the plane; I never am able to, but even getting a little sleep on the plane will help.
  4. Try to be sure you’re eating at regular intervals. I know for me, after traveling for many hours, on lack of sleep, I feel like I’m dragging and not even interested in a lot of food. My suggestion is to at least be eating healthy snacks every few hours. The point is to keep your body on a schedule which will help regulate to the new time zone quicker.
  5. Don’t pack your first day with a ton of places to see. I mentioned above to skip the nap, but that doesn’t mean that I suggest you jam pack your day with things to keep you busy. Hit a few of the things you want to see, but take it easy. Enjoy the new city you’re in and walk around, get some food, coffee etc. and head back to your hotel early for some sleep.

I hope some of those tips come in handy when you’re traveling. Be sure to comment if you have any other tips for me, or questions about traveling! PS. I’ve linked some travel items below that I love 🙂
