Since I have hundreds of photos from our trip, and realize most people don’t want to look at every single one, I decided to write different blog posts for the places we went, sharing tips and photos. Let’s begin with Scotland. I was very excited to see Scotland since it was a place I’d never been and I’ve heard it’s beautiful. Beautiful is an understatement. Not only is there beauty around every corner, the people are some of the kindest I’ve met when traveling.

We started in Glasgow, drove Northwest to the Isle of Skye [I’ll be doing a separate post on that since there’s so much to see], then East to Aberdeen, St. Andrews and finished in Edinburgh. There was so much to see and do, but I think we hit a good amount for the time we had. The weather could not have been better and the food was yummy too! If you’d like to hear more specifics, I’d be happy to share more, but for now, here are some of the basic tips 🙂

-Glasgow is a very walk-able city. It’s much smaller than Edinburgh and easy to see the main areas in a day or two. There are great parks and little restaurants too. The café I recommend here is Kember and Jones. 

-Scotland has great organic markets to get good fruits and veg [or milk for babies] and it’s so much cheaper than in the states. I got a pint of whole milk, carton of blueberries, 2 avocados, and a slice of homemade lavender poppy seed cake for six pounds.

-You can skip Fraiserburgh and Inverness if you’re on a tight schedule. They are fine cites, but compared to the countryside and other cites like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and St. Andrews, they don’t compare.

-Check out Aberdeen. It’s super cute and right on the water. If you go to the beach around sunset, you may even see some dolphins. Who would’ve thought!

-St. Andrews is a must! It is the cutest little town and there’s something cute around every corner. We didn’t really know what to expect, so we only stopped for a few hours for me to do a day photo session, and we were really bummed that we had to leave so soon. There is the famous golf course, plus, it’s the place Will and Kate met and fell in love, so yeah, it’s pretty romantic 🙂

-Edinburgh is the bomb. It’s easily walk-able and there is a ton to do–lots of great places to eat, cute cafes, and plenty of shopping and tourist things as well. If you are going to go to Edinburgh castle, get tickets ahead of time and go early—it’s normally packed! Stockbridge is a little area inside Edinburgh. It’s much less crowded, which was way more our style. There are cute little boutiques and a great ice cream shop 🙂

-Talk to locals. Everyone we encountered in Scotland was so kind. Some wanted to know where we were from and where we were going in the country they are so proud of. If they’ve been where you’re traveling to next, they’ll likely offer great suggestions of places to go or eat.
