baby must-haves when traveling

March 8, 2018

When we say that we’re traveling with our young baby, we tend to get lots of “wow” faces or “good for you.” When we told people we were taking our baby all around Europe for 10 days, those faces were even more surprised. I thought it would be a good idea to write a post on some of our must-haves when traveling so that if you are feeling like attempting a trip with a young baby, you feel confident to do just that 🙂 PS. if you want more tips for traveling with a little one, check out THIS blog post!

  1. A gate check bag for the carseat/stroller. We don’t always bring our carseat with us, but sometimes it is necessary and I don’t know about you, but the thought of the carseat going through all the airport baggage claim areas grosses me out! We bought an inexpensive cover bag [linked below], and it’s come in handy many times. They have one for strollers too if you are going to check a stroller.
  2. Snacks. This one seems obvious, but I forgot once, and man was that a bummer! I had to buy some airport snacks for her that were not cheap haha. I make sure to have plenty in my carry on/diaper bag and then tons extra for our whole trip in my checked bag.
  3. A sound machine. This may not apply to you if your baby doesn’t like or use a sound machine, but we found it super helpful to have one for our daughter. It’s tough when traveling because your baby is sleeping in the same room with you, meaning there are lots of noises and distractions they’re not used to. They have travel sound machines, but we have also just used an app on our phone in a pinch that worked very well.
  4. Be sure to have a good travel stroller. We always take a stroller with us. Always. We don’t check our stroller because we like to have it through the airport, so we just check it right at the gate. That also means that we have it immediately when we get off the plane. We have the Maclaren travel stroller [I’ve linked below] that is sturdy [we used it all through Europe], yet lightweight and easy to fold up. I have also heard from good friends that they like the Uppa baby.
  5. A few comforts from home. Whether this is a pacifier they love [my tip is to bring a clip for it, though, like this one], a blanket they like to sleep with, or a few toys they love [I always bring a couple toys, but am sure to bring the ones that can be washed very easily], it helps them adjust to a new place if they have something from home.

So there you have it, some of our must-haves. We haven’t found it too difficult to travel with a little one. We are lucky that she is a happy child and doesn’t mind traveling, but we’ve taken her on quite a few trips in her short life, and having these items has helped us feel like we’ve got this 🙂 What are things you like to pack when traveling with a baby?

*Some of the items in this blog post are not sponsored. I simply have tried them out and want to recommend them. The ones from Amazon are linked below.
