tips for traveling with kids

October 3, 2018

Traveling with two little kids. We did it. I will say, it went so much more smoothly than I anticipated. I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that I was prepared. As you know, my whole goal in writing these posts for you all, is to help you in any way I can. Traveling with kids doesn’t have to be a daunting and stressful thing. Here are some tips to help you 🙂

-Buy that extra seat. I know it’s a bummer to spend more money when you’re traveling, but when you have two kiddos, trust me, it’s so helpful to have the whole row. We had Ainsley sit in between us which was perfect.

-Bring new toys. Having some new activities for your little/s distracts them a little better than if you were to just bring toys they play with everyday. If you don’t feel like buying new ones, put a couple away a few weeks before your trip, and then reintroduce them on the flight. The no mess water coloring books are fantastic! I’ve linked some of our favorite toys below 🙂

-Bring some kid headphones. The kid headphones are great because they only go up to a certain volume so as not to damage your child’s ears. They are great if you have screens on the flight, or if you let them use your phone/iPad.

-Netflix downloads. A really good friend told me about this, and I am so glad she did. I didn’t think about downloading them ahead of time and using them without WIFI. We loaded up the iPad before we left. Just be sure to download what you want the night before your flight because I don’t think they last that long.

-Gate check your stroller. It’s so much easier [and helps the worrying mom ;)] to be able to have your little ones strapped in when you’re going through the airport. Especially if you’re like us at all and end up rushing through the airport. You can take your stroller right to the gate and get it back as soon as you get off the plane.

-Extra clothes in ziplock bags. Another friend suggested this too. Have a couple extra outfits [for you and the kids] in ziplock bags that you can put in your diaper bag/backpack. If you need to change outfits, you put the dirty clothes in the ziplock!

-Just do it. Don’t let it stress you out too much to travel with multiple kids. It’s more work for sure, but if you prepare ahead of time, and know that you can’t control everything, you will be just fine!

As always, I’ve linked some of our favorite travel products below. I’d love to hear if you have any other tips, or if you have any questions I didn’t address 🙂
